Dominating current trends, coffee houses Honey Veil and La Boulangerie have taken Miami by storm. These two local hotspots are among the many popular pit stops in Miami for a quick treat.

Honey Veil, a café truck in South Miami and Coral Gables, offers a variety of delicacies, such as sourdough bread and flavored matcha lattes. La Boulangerie, a bakery with multiple locations, offers a wide selection of croissants, coffees, and other breakfast staples. Both offer different experiences and pastries, and can be enjoyable depending on what you’re looking for.

From Wednesday to Friday, Honey Veil is located in front of the University of Miami. On Saturday and Sunday, it’s located in front of Dragonfly Thrift Boutique.

Honey Veil is a family-run business founded by a mother and two daughters. One of them, Regi, was an aspiring professional tennis player, bringing her determination from the court into the kitchen. Her sister and fellow co-owner, Ceci, studied abroad in Japan for six months, where she fell in love with matcha. Their mother was the brains of Honey Veil’s startup. She creates unique recipes, incorporating sourdough into a variety of pastries. The bakery opened in September and began booming earlier this year.

This popular bakery has attracted customers at Riviera. Sophomore Lily Hart, a frequent Honey Veil customer, gave us an inside view of this high-quality grade variety of matcha. Her go-to order is an iced vanilla matcha with oat milk and honey whip, accompanied by a matcha loaf on the side.

“It has a different taste than other matchas because all their syrups are made with honey,” said Hart.

Along with their diverse menu options, many customers appreciate the truck’s cozy atmosphere and convenience. Ella Arrubla (10), a café lover, said, “It’s very homey; it has a lot of warm lights and nice workers, so they attract their customers.”

While Honey Veil brings Japanese-inspired flavors to the streets of Miami, La Boulangerie Boul’Mich focuses on bringing French and Venezuelan delicacies. La Boungerie Boul’Mich at the Pinecrest location is a bustling bakery with French and Venezuelan assortments. The name “La Boungerie” comes from a small side street in Paris called Boulangerie. Due to its location along US-1, they are constantly busy, especially on weekday mornings. With its minimalist, relaxing atmosphere, the bakery not only draws these usual customers back in but also fosters a community of first-timers.

Manager of the La Boungerie Boul’Mich (Pinecrest location) since 2019, Paola Galue said, “At this location, we sell off every croissant every day.”  On the other hand, the setting changes on the weekend, with families gathering on the terrace.

Unlike other cafes that rely on social media to promote their products, La Boungerie Boul’Mich strongly believes in traditional methods such as word of mouth. A weekly customer and sophomore, Kaydence Pruett, said, “A friend told me about this place.” Their customers range from teens in late adolescence to families, but it’s important to note that they are more family-oriented. “We get more families than students,” said Galue.

In the near future, Honey Veil will open a new location in addition to its truck. It’ll be replacing Spris Pizza on Sunset Drive. La Boulangerie Boul’Mich will continue to offer its popular bakery treats and drinks, introducing seasonal items like the Pumpkin Spice Latte and Strawberry Matcha Latte.
